Forest disturbance in a changing world

Meeting of forest modelers in Krakow, Poland

The annual meeting of the COST Action PROFOUND took place in Krakow, Poland from Sep. 28-29 2016

The COST Action FP1304 PROFOUND held its annual meeting in Krakow, Poland from Sep. 28-29 2016, bringing together more than 80 forest modelers from Europe and the US.

A strong delegation of the RESIN team took part in the lively discussion on how to model forest ecosystems in the face of future uncertainty. Rupert Seidl, who is leading working group two of PROFOUND, presented the progress of the working group to the audience.

PROFOUND is an incubator of new and innovative modeling ideas, and is thus an important network for the ongoing work in RESIN. Werner Rammer is discussing large-scale modeling approaches with experts from Alterra, Wageningen, the Netherlands.

PROFOUND is also a good opportunity for communicating RESIN results to the forest modeling community. In Krakow, Katharina Albrich presented her first results on forest ecosystem services provisioning under changing climate and disturbance regimes.

Big thanks go to the coordinator of PROFOUND Christopher Reyer (PIK Potsdam) as well as to the local organizers for a productive and inspiring meeting. Special thanks to Bogdan Wertz for the fotos of the event.
