Forest disturbance in a changing world

Analysis of tree cores has started!

The analysis of the tree cores collected earlier this summer in the Stubai Valley, Tirol has started!

Last week, Katharina and master student Hanna visited the University of Innsbruck in order to analyse the tree cores which they had collected for RESIN in July.

After an introduction to the fundamentals of tree core analyis by Walter Oberhuber (Institute of Botany, University of Innsbruck) who will also be supervising the work in the dendrology lab, they started preparing and analysing the tree cores.

The majority of the analyses will be done by Hanna, who will use the data for her master thesis and Evelyn and Johanna, two bachelor students of the Biology programme at the University of Innsbruck who will write their bachelor theses on the subject.

The analysis has already yielded interesting data and promises valuable insights into the reaction of mountain forest to extreme climatic events.
